Put a smile on your face while reading the news

Eric Ewanco at Christifideles has pointed out happynews.com. The site aims to deliver only happy news.

While perusing the website, I was rather disappointed. Most of the news isn't what I'd call happy. Some people might, but:

• I don't find it encouraging that more students are eating school breakfasts, instead of a breakfast prepared at home. Should we really be crowing with pride about increased poverty and the loss of common family meals? Even if so, the November menu of school breakfasts at my son's elementary school is not what I would call encouraging:
  • French Toast Stick
  • Pancake-n-Sausage on Stick
  • Waffle Stick (some company making Sticks must be raking in millions)
  • Chicken Patty Biscuit
  • Breakfast Favorite (???)
  • Reduced Fat Donut (today's breakfast, boys and girls, is what we call an oxymoron)
  • Breakfast Pizza
  • Eggo Waffle w/Syrup
  • Sausage Biscuit
  • Breakfast Bagel
  • Scrambled Eggs w/Toast
  • Apple Turnover w/Yogurt
• A Saudi prince donating $40 million to American universities is not necessarily a good thing if it's accompanied by the same political sentiment that prompted Mayor Giuliani to reject the prince's donation to New York City.
• Is a display of photos from the Great "Depression" really "happy" news?
• Microsoft and MTV teaming up for anything is troubling news, especially when the project's name is URGE.
• The conclusion of a plurality (?) of historians that past eras of our nation's history were all more difficult than this one makes one wonder why today's Americans are such whiners, above all academics.
• The rock musician formerly not known as Prince is back.
