Perhaps the problem here isn't the professor...
A colleague approached me the other day. I was talking with one of your [Modern Algebra] students, he said, who's not happy with how he's doing in the class. I've had this student in a few classes. He asked me if anyone else taught Algebra.
I told him that I had taught it some years ago. He fell silent a moment and then asked, Does anyone else teach Algebra here?
