Jacques Ozanam, a French mathematician related to Frédéric Ozanam, founder of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, said,

It is the business of the [Theology faculty of the] Sorbonne to discuss, of the Pope to decide, and of a mathematician to go straight to heaven in a perpendicular line.
