The simple joys of life

Some people spend too much time in front of the television. Some people spend too much time on the phone, gossiping. Some people spend too much time browsing the internet. I myself am of the latter variety: to wit, this post. So this evening I decided to get off my duff and go for a stroll. I grabbed my rosary so as to have something to do, and off I went!

As I approached the end of my stroll, I noticed that a tiny pebble had wedged itself between the sole of my foot, and my sandal. I also noticed that it hurt. When I arrived at home, I took of my sandal and brushed off the pebble. A deep, pink hole remains in my foot, two hours later. In addition, a blister has appeared on one of my toes.

Apparently, I need to spend more time browsing the internet, and less time lusting after the simple joys of life, right? After all, if I hadn't gone on that walk, I would have stayed in front of my computer, and I wouldn't have hurt my poor little footsy.

Excuse the silliness: it's my way of reminding myself that sometimes, what's good for me ("simple joys", "healthy living", etc.) isn't easy, and doesn't feel good; indeed, sometimes doing the right thing is painful. Conversely, keeping oneself insulated and comfortable can very well be self-destructive.

I liked the message in your post.

I also wanted to add that fortunately for those of us who like to walk, good socks and tennishoes can make the experience good for us AND with no blisters :-) I've been told to use hand lotion on blisters (after they puncture and the liquid gets dried out). It helps the skin to heal, so I've been told. But I really haven't noticed much difference with just letting a blister dry naturally. It always hurts until they heal :-( Where is that placebo effect when you need it? :-)

On another subject, please pray for me, I have an important interview today.

Eep. I hope your interview went well. I'll say a post facto prayer; since God is outside time, that should still be good.

Sorry 'bout that. :-(

Oh, and by the way:

Yeah, it would have helped if I'd work the good sandals instead of the ones with the ripped footbed, folded back. On the other hand, yesterday's walk had no such ill effects..

Thanks for your post-prayer and concern :-)

Unfortunately, the interview was like falling 20 stories in a loose cable elevator in slow-motion. I needed this entire morning to recover.

The only good thing is that it became clear while in the interview, that one of the people interviewing me is the type of person I pray I will never have to work for in my life. A digusting little twit, with no ethics whatsoever.

Although I had some tiny signs about problems before the interview, I also had some signs that it might turn out to be a great opportunity, so my mind kind of kept the bad signs at a distance and focused more on the good ones. Result: a bit of a disaster :-)

If all goes well I have another interview tomorrow, so guess what, you're still in time for another little prayer :-)

Thanks.

Alessandra,

I certainly hope this one goes better. I'll say a prayer.
